Le premier album "Styx" publié en 1972 est certainement l'un des moins pompeux du groupe. 

Il démarre par une sorte de prototype du format concept-album qui sera repris plus tard pour les albums "The Grand Illusion", "Paradise Theater" ou "Kilroy Was Here". 

Le morceau qui dure plus de treize minutes intitulé "Movement For The Common Man" est un hommage à la classe ouvrière dont sont issus les membres du groupe.
