Le groupe a enregistré sous différents noms à Paris et après avoir remporté un concours de rock sous le nom de King Harvest, a enregistré son premier album et a ajouté le bassiste français Didier Alexandre au groupe.
Le groupe a été sollicité pour composer la bande originale d'un film, Le Feu Sacré, qui représentait la France au Festival de Cannes en 1971, où ils se sont produits tous les soirs au Whiskey-a-Go-Go de Juan-les-Pins.
Rejoints par Doc Robinson (claviers, chant), ils ont été engagés pour ouvrir pour BB King à l'Olympia de Paris et pour jouer en tête d'affiche au Speakeasy de Londres.
En 1972, King Harvest s'est associé à ses producteurs Pierre Jaubert et Jack Robinson pour enregistrer Dancing in the Moonlight, écrit par leur vieil ami Sherman Kelly. Sorti aux États-Unis, Dancing in the Moonlight est devenu un succès et est resté en tête des charts Billboard pendant 22 semaines.
