La sortie de "Grave new world" en 1972 coïncide avec le départ de Rick Wakeman et son remplacement par Blue Weaver, et cet album est un des meilleurs de ce groupe anglais et un des monuments du folk-progressif
Les vocaux sont essentiellement assurés par David Cousins , même si sur certains, John Ford (sur le magnifique "Heavy disguise" où quelques cuivres viennent soutenir la mélodie) et Tony Hooper prennent la relève.
