 Lothar And The Hand People à été formé à Denver en 1965. Cette ville n'étant pas exactement dépeinte comme "La Mecque"  du rock de cette époque, le groupe se serait installé à New York. Il était composé de Rusty Ford à la basse, Kim King à la guitare,  moog et ampex tape decks, Paul Conley aux claviers et moog, Tom Flye à la batterie et aux percussions, et John Emelin au chant.
