Ballin' Jack a été formé en 1969 à Seattle, Washington par deux amis de lycée de Jimi Hendrix, Luther Rabb et Ronnie Hammon. Par la suite, ils ont souvent fait la première partie des concerts d'Hendrix lors de ses tournées américaines.
